Having operated a successful Family Child Care in my home for
over 10 years, I have had many opportunities to introduce
various aspects of the Arts to young children. Being naturally
musical myself, providing a musical curriculum to my kids was a
simple and obvious way to enhance the daily activities of my
child care and my own children as well.
Children respond to music at a very young age. Nearly everyone
can remember their mother or grandmother singing nursery rhymes
to them as little ...

Q. My children are very interested in playing music. Is there
such a thing as a music quiz for kids?
A. Sure there's such a thing as a music quiz, and you can find
one right inside of your head. Just reach up there, pull it out,
and put it down on paper. I'm serious. Who knows where your
children's musical interests lie better than you? Right -- no
one; so instead of finding some pre-made music quiz, which may
or may not challenge them at the levels that you want them to be
challenged, go ahead ...

Whether you have high aspirations for your child in the area of
music or not, learning and listening to music is highly
advantageous for your child.
It is common for mothers of very young children to sing to
them, in order to calm them at the end of the day, so that they
go to sleep. Hymns and patriotic music are played in official
occasions and conventions, to arouse patriotic feelings in
people. Loud and fast music with strong tempo is played at
parties, to motivate people to dance and ...

Music is a wonderful way for you to calm and soothe your baby,
especially during the first year. How many times have your heard
parents say that there was nothing that they could do with their
crying, fussing baby until they tried music. This is because
music does indeed soothe the savage beast, or in this case, the
baby.
There are certain distinct sounds that have been proven to calm
even fussy babies: the sounds of nature, white noise, and music.
Even if your baby isn't fussing or crying you ...

We all associate songs and music with events in our life. Many
songs hold special memories for us. We fondly remember the songs
that were playing when we went to our first dance, the songs the
school band attempted to play during half time at the high
school football games, the songs that we heard on our first
date, or the songs we heard on the radio while driving our first
car.
The music of the 1970's is probably the most impressive and most
recognized of any era. The artists of the 1970's ...

One of the Appalachian Mountain region's greatest contributions
to the world is Bluegrass music. Born in hills and hollows,
Bluegrass is simply mountain folk music with heavy Celtic
influences.
Today, you can hear the sweet harmonies of Bluegrass instruments
and smooth vocals throughout the United States, and indeed the
world. Bluegrass festivals abound, featuring performers from all
over the globe. But the heart and soul of Bluegrass remains
securely in the Appalachian region.
During the ...

Feeling guilty about not volunteering enough at my son's
elementary school this year, I signed up to chaperone their St.
Patrick's Day party, a.k.a. "Irish Disco". Of course, my young
daughter wanted to come along. I never thought I'd be taking my
kids to their first dance at the ages of four and nine!
I hardly saw my son during the whole party. He was hanging out
with the boys, and 'too cool' to sit with his mom and little
sister. But it didn't bother me in the least - I enjoyed two
hours of ...

Christmas music in the form of carols, songs stringed or instrumental renditions, is constantly heard during the Christmas season. Music forms the background against which everything else takes place to make the Christmas season different from all others. Christmas music plays such a significant role that during the entire season, other popular music temporarily disappears from radio. That may be the reason for all the different types of Christmas music - sacred, secular, popular and ...

Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Carlos Santana, Slash - what do
they have in common? In the often wild but never dull world of
music, these four are just a few of the elite set of popular
guitar-wielding musicians. Their fame and mass appeal may be
attributed to their fancy fingers, fast hands and overall
commercial packaging.
What is it about playing the guitar that has millions of people
yearning to pick up and pluck this weird-shaped, (usually)
six-stringed musical instrument? The most obvious ...
